HELP FAMILIES LIKE MICHELLE’S
HAVE A BETTER CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR
YOUR DONATION WILL HELP WOMEN AND CHILDREN ESCAPE THE CYCLE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
For families caught in abusive situations, Christmas can be a desperate time of year. Your donation to the Sisters of Charity Foundation will help us provide relief and assistance to victims of domestic violence.
“I stayed for them. And finally, I left for them - when I realised they were in danger too…”
Michelle’s story is like many others. What started as jealousy and anger, quickly escalated into a cycle of violence.
“Jason and I were in a relationship for 15 years,” Michelle explains. “We had four children together. At first it was great, but he got jealous and angry really easily.
“It started with name-calling, then spitting on me, then kicking and hitting. Then he would be loving again. Over the years he cut me off from my friends and gradually convinced me our problems were my fault, and that if I left, he would get the children.
“I stayed for them. And finally, I left for them – when I realised they were in danger too, and they were hurting just from living with violence.
“But it was hard to leave. I mean, just making it happen. How could I afford a house and move four kids and all their stuff without being caught? How could I protect them after we moved? How would I live?
“I know now there is some help available, but I didn’t know it then. When it got to the stage one night where there was nothing left to feed my children, not even dry cereal, it really felt like the end.”
We support organisations that provide practical help to victims of domestic violence
The Sisters of Charity Foundation supports organisations that provide practical help to women and children, helping them move on from violent situations.
This Christmas, please donate so we can help more families, just like you, who have been victims of violent situations. 100% of your donation goes directly to the people you choose to support.
Join us in our mission of creating a society where anyone who experiences disadvantage or social isolation can count on swift, practical assistance.
