March 2020 Community Grants announced

We’re thrilled to announce the 26 incredible projects that will receive funding as part of our latest Community Grants round.

Every year, in March and September, the Sisters of Charity Foundation provides grants of up to $15,000 to a wide range of incredible community projects and programs.

Our March 2020 grant round attracted submissions from 96 applicants. The Grants Allocation Committee then had the difficult task of selecting those projects that most closely aligned with the Sisters’ charism, and investigating each project to confirm it was able to function alongside lockdown and social distancing measures. Finally, 26 organisations across Australia were chosen.

“Over the past few weeks it has been great to talk with our grant recipients, and find out how they are adapting to the pressures of COVID 19 – I’m so impressed,” says Foundation CEO Louise Burton. “These organisations often small and under-resourced, are agile, progressive, and being innovative – in the true spirit of the Sisters of Charity themselves. It is humbling to be able to continue the Sisters social justice agenda through the Foundation.”

Here’s just a sample of community projects now made possible:

  • Lunches, uniforms and educational supplies to help disadvantaged kids excel at school (All Saints Catholic College Liverpool, Mary Immaculate Parish Primary School, and Give Write Inc.)
  • Intensive support to help migrants and refugees relocate and find jobs in regional Australia (Regional Opportunities Australia)
  • Driver training and mentoring to help Indigenous Australians obtain their driver’s licence and secure employment (iHELP Aboriginal Corporation)
